Restoration Details
Indications
1. Mild to moderate bruxism (tooth grinding and clenching)
2. Patients sensitive to hard appliances, needing high comfort
3. Protection of teeth, restorations and enamel from wear
4. Temporary occlusal splint for short‑term use
5. Patients with temporomandibular joint discomfort related to muscle tension
Material Composition
Usually made of thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) or soft ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) — flexible, BPA‑free, biocompatible dental materials.
Preparation Tips
1. Evaluate occlusion and confirm bruxism
2. Take accurate upper/lower dental impressions
3. Record proper jaw relationship and vertical dimension
4. Ensure good oral hygiene and healthy periodontium
5. Instruct patient on fitting, wearing, cleaning, and follow-up
Strength Characteristics (MPa)
1. Soft night guard has low flexural strength and high elasticity
2. It is flexible, shock-absorbent, and comfortable, but less rigid than hard guards
3. Typical tensile strength: 1.5–2.5 MPa
4. Typical elongation at break: >200%
